From monastery beer to a modern brewery

Behind the monastery walls of St. Gallen, monks were already brewing beer in the Middle Ages, laying the foundation for Switzerland’s oldest brewery. The monastery plan of 825 shows no fewer than three breweries. Schützengarten has consistently carried on this tradition and remains independent to this day.
